So near and yet so far for St Mary's

St. Mary's Primary, Marple Bridge represented Stockport County Football Club in
the Divisional Finals of The Football League Community Cup at Crewe Alexandra FC
last Thursday.
Proudly sporting the full Stockport County home kit, the team took to the astro-turf
at the Alexandra Soccer Centre in Shavington, hoping to finish in the top two of
their group and earn a place in the semi final.

After a 2-0 defeat in the first game against Oldham Athletic, the team responded
with a 0-0 draw with Leicester City and a 2-0 victory over Hartlepool United,
their final two games saw them lose 1-0 to Huddersfield Town and beat Leeds
United 2-0.
Unfortunately, they finished 3rd in the group, behind winners Oldham Athletic
and runners up, Huddersfield Town who booked their place in the Semi-Final.
Both semi-finals went to penalties after extra time, with Tranmere Rovers
beating Crewe Alexandra 1-0 in the Final with a last minute goal, to secure
their place in the showpiece Wembley Final!
Well done to all eight players from St. Mary's for their footballing
achievements in this year's Community Cup.
Our thanks go to the Football League Trust for organising the national
tournament, which will be running again next season.
